Background

Dr Stephen McCullan is passionate about the art of orthodontics and the delivery of the very best in orthodontic care. He utilises the latest technology and modern techniques to achieve excellence in orthodontic care and in the smiles he creates.

Stephen was raised in the Macarthur and Southern Highland regions of New South Wales. Dr McCullan completed his undergraduate studies, a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, with honours, at the University of Sydney. He was awarded six academic prizes on graduation, the most academic awards of his year. These prizes included the prize for the most outstanding overall clinical performance of his cohort.

QUALIFICATIONS

Dr McCullan completed a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics at the University of Sydney. This program involved over three years of full time study. Throughout this program Dr McCullan was involved in the treatment and planning of thousands of orthodontic cases.

Dr McCullan has completed accreditation as an Australian Board Certified Specialist Orthodontist. This qualification recognises that a specialist orthodontist has maintained their training and standards to the highest level expected by the Australasian Orthodontic Board. He is also holds membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). This qualification is the highest international qualification available by examination in orthodontics.

Dr McCullan is an admitted solicitor of the NSW Supreme Court. He has a particular interest in dento-legal matters and actively consults in this area, and also provides his services as an expert witness.

Experience

Dr McCullan has maintained involvement with the University of Sydney in the capacity of Associate Lecturer. He has taught dental students in the fields of orthodontics and oral surgery. Dr McCullan maintains close ties with his alumni and is presently involved with lecturing to future generations of dentists in the field of orthodontics.

Dr McCullan has been practicing dentistry since 2004. During this time he has practised in a variety of dental practices throughout Australia, including inner Sydney, the Macarthur region and in the Illawarra. He has acquired valuable experience in complex dental treatment planning, and advanced surgical techniques. He has completed advanced training in dental implantology and was a member of the International Team for Implantology.

Dr McCullan’s broad based dental background integrates well with his practice of orthodontics, allowing him to ensure a whole patient approach to orthodontic planning is achieved, resulting in superior outcomes for every patient.

Dr McCullan is also an admitted lawyer and a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW. He is interested in the interface of the law, politics and dentistry and hopes to assist the profession of dentistry advance in the future.

PHILOSOPHY

"I chose to become an orthodontist because I wanted a job where I could help people, and have a tangible positive impact in their lives. Orthodontics grants me this privilege. I want to make orthodontics affordable and accessible to every child, as I see the enormous positive psycho-social impact that a great smile can have on an individual".

IN MY SPARE TIME

In his spare time Dr McCullan takes every opportunity to get out and be active outdoors. His hobbies include jogging, cycling, surfing, skiing, flying small aircraft, paragliding, and playing with his duck toller Sunny and his nephews Leo and Toby. Other interests include anything tech, and trying to code up new ideas and projects.
